Woo-Hoo! That was pretty fun. We had a bunch of people show up to Turkey in the Park 2008 bringing all kinds of cool stuff - big thanks to each and every one of you. This was the biggest year yet - we had three turkeys, and I believe we used them all up (and most of everything else, too). We also gave away almost all of the clothes, blankets, etc. that were so generously donated.
Because this park is so much bigger and more open than where we did this last year, it didn't look like we had a lot of people at first. About an hour into it I scanned the crowd to get a rough headcount, and there were over 100 just at that point - and that's not counting the people who'd already come and gone, and others that came later. Pretty good turnout.
My favorite part was getting to walk around with the Rocket Man on my back chatting with people and handing out Kool-Aid. (I'm enough of a dork that I think the Rocket Man is cool.)
If you were there, please leave a comment letting us know your take on things - what was fun, what we did right, what we did wrong, etc. It's good for us to keep learning as we do this stuff.
Again, thanks to all of you who contributed food, clothes, blankets, and time. You all rock.

I also want to say a Big Fat Thank you to the VCF, Flood, and CNC and I think there were also people from Cordova Church of Christ. With out all of you this could not have happened. It was a great time. A Big Thank you to Keith for raiding Ikea on all there Blankets. Amazing. Tyson you are to cute with the Rocket Man, too Funny.Dan Looking forward to seeing your Pics. We had more food than we have ever had and were even able to give to go food away. I love it! Please post your stories of people you met, ways you were moved, stories that were shared. We love to hear it. Thanks again everyone. Peace and Love
Mike and Kellie
Tyson rocked the Rocket Man.
The highlights for me included:
1. Seeing so many volunteers pull off this event.
2. Seeing a collaboration amongst churches. I saw people from Flood, Vineyard, City Life, CNC, the Wednesday Bible study posse, Church of Christ, etc...
3. So many of us really sat down with our guests and talked. I also saw people praying for others too. This was one of the big goals of the event - to build relationship.
4. It was exciting to hear many people looking forward to Christmas morning also. As I mentioned to Debbie, it would be neat to see if someone would lead a few songs of worship on Christmas morning or a few carols (or both). Would Downtown Vineyard be interested?
The event seemed really smooth and we left the park clean.
Other Stuff:
1. Please pray for Jordan, that he will find a job and have the motivation to find a job.
2. I can't wait to see Dan's photos.
3. I was glad to hear that Danny has found an apartment.
Ryan
p.s. I have missed connecting with everyone, so it was sooooo good to see you guys.
Sorry I left Out City Life a big Thank you to you guys as well.
Thanks again
Kellie
One more thing.... the blankets, gift bags, clothing, and all the other donations were incredible. Good job everyone.

Kellie -
I think it was Shane who rocked the Ikea blankets. Keith and Char brought tons of gravy.

The "the Wednesday Bible study posse" seems to be getting called "The Gathering" more often than not, although that always makes me think of Highlander:
"From the dawn of time we came; moving silently down through the centuries, living many secret lives, struggling to reach the time of the Gathering; when the few who remain will battle to the last. No one has ever known we were among you... until now."
Back on topic, it was neat how many churches were represented. We also had a number of people who aren't affiliated with any church. It's cool that so many diverse people can work together to do something good like this.
Peace,
-Tyson
Not only is TIP one of my favorite annual S&G events, but this year's TIP is my favorite one of all time! I am so blessed by the way that we all worked together to pull this event off with little stress but loads of substance.
Most substantial in my mind in the many conversations I saw.... pods of people all over the place having conversations. At one point I looked across the park and saw scores of people sitting in smaller clusters eagerly getting to know each other over a common meal. THAT IS WHAT THIS EVENT IS ALL ABOUT!!! We were a picnic, all the way down to the horse shoes and frisbee games.
We also gave away loads of clothing, and oodles, let me say it again oodles of blankets; and, a smile crossed my face each time one of the bright yellow shoulder bags filled with stuff crossed my path.
I am so blessed to have people from our host of local churches & small groups (VCF, CNC, City Life, Cordova Church of Christ, Flood, SAAM, Wed. Night Gathering) , friends & co-workers, people I've been meeting through this blog helping to make this event such a success.
I love that people brought their strengths to share at the event – Dan: Photos, Ryan – I saw you videoing, and Rob's meatballs, those were gone before I even got there! Also don't forget Kellie's ham. We gave away so much today; but truly, I get back so much more than I ever give.
This park and today's weather couldn't have been better. I think we should be back at this park next year - with lots more tables. I also liked the chafing dish food trays to keep food hot. :)
Ann
Glad to join you all in this! Looking forward to joining you next month.
